Independence Day

Independence Day

As the United States of America celebrates its 246th birthday, I feel compelled to reflect on the 65 years I have been blessed to be a citizen of this great nation. I also consider the 45 years since my blog buddy, Neville, from the UK, first stepped onto American soil. Over these years, the two of us have explored both of our countries and interacted with many of the people who inhabit these lands.

We have both gained a profound appreciation and love for this country and the diverse array of citizens and visitors who make it so special. As fond as I am of his great Nation, we both love and respect America and wish to celebrate this special day, July 4th, Independence Day.

To celebrate Independence Day, I tried my hand at penning these words:

Piestewa Peak, Phoenix Arizona

With courage bold and vision clear,
Founders set forth, with hearts sincere.
They penned the words, a timeless decree,

A beacon of liberty, for all to see.

Through trials and triumphs, we’ve grown strong,

A tapestry of voices, in a unified song.
From every land, we come to stand,
Together in this bountiful land.

Let us celebrate with joyous cheer,
The birth of a nation we hold dear.
With pride and honor, we proclaim,
Our love for this land, forever the same.

In every heart, a patriotic flame,
Burns brightly in freedom’s name.
For in this nation, diverse and free,
We find our strength, our unity.

Happy 4th, Chuckster! I like your tribute to our country, and I enjoyed that rendition by Ray Charles. I recognized a lot of faces in that old video that I haven’t seen in years. Looks like that’s from the Yankees/Diamondback World Series in ’01.

I had a great 4th. Sometime back I was in Toronto on Canada Day and enjoyed that celebration. And we were in Paris on Bastille Day back in 2016. It is a thrill to celebrate Independence and Liberty…in all its interesting manifestation.

I enjoyed your 4th of July post! We are both very blessed to be living in a country where we feel free to live and believe as we choose. These next few months will prove very interesting as our election draws near.

Yes, I agree. I worry about the direction my country is taking, and I hope other people are taking the election seriously.

Congratulations on a photo that includes not only the national and state flag, but the Brit flag too. You must have done a lot of walking to find that one. I still remember the words to pledge my loyalty to the flag of the United States of America.

bud – Ray Charles didn’t do a bad job either, I’m also a fan of Jose Feliciano’s ‘Star-Spangled Banner’
