Peanuts and Cracker Jacks

Peanuts and Cracker Jacks

Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks
I don’t care if I never get back

Let me root, root, root for the home team
If they don’t win it’s a shame
‘Cause it’s one, two, three strikes your out
At the old ball game

Take me out to the ballgame, (Just hang on to my arm)
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and those Cracker Jacks
I don’t care if I never get back

Let me root, root, root for the home team
If they don’t win it’s a shame
‘Cause it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out
At the old ball game

Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with the crowd
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks
I don’t care if I never get back

Let me root, for the home team
If they don’t win it’s a shame
For it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out
At the old ball game

Take me out to the ballgame
Take me out with that crowd
Buy me some peanuts and those Cracker Jacks
I don’t care if I never get back

Let me root, root, root for the home team
If they don’t win it’s a shame
For it’s one, two, three strikes you’re out

T-Mobile Field, Seattle Washington

This weekend my spousal unit and I flew up to Seattle Washington to take in a baseball game at T-Mobile field. It was the last weekend of the year for the regular baseball season, and the championships for Major League Baseball (MLB) will soon be starting. Both teams we saw playing; the Seattle Mariners and the Oakland A’s; were already eliminated from the playoffs, so for the players and fans, the weekend we attended was the last great summer culminating hurrah.

Sitting in the stands behind home plate, we both could feel the passion in the crowd! The rowdy Seattle Area fans along with many visiting Oakland Fans were cheering and cavorting. It was a grand time and place to enjoy the ‘American Past Time’ as it came to an annual conclusion. The sights, smell, and sounds of this great American tradition was a feast for the senses!

Oakland A’s vs Seattle Mariners, Sept. 28, 2024

Enjoying the fantastic, cool fall weekend in Seattle, it was a terrific diversion from the oppressive heat and endless summer afflicting my home town. And this game did not disappoint us. It was a terrific experience.

Chuckster and Spouse

I think one of the most unique experiences in American Baseball is what occurs during the 7th inning stretch. After the visiting team finishes their ‘at bat’, thousands of fans all rise in unison to sing the old favorite, ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game’.

This was an audio clip from our game, the final weekend for baseball in Seattle. I must confess, as an American Baseball junky, this moment is a huge part of the experience I have loved every since I was a kid. An amateur youth baseball player myself, there was no experience as grand as standing and singing the joyous words.

Recorded At T-Mobile Field – Seattle – 09/28/2024

I know the World Cup has it’s iconic theme songs, “Ole, Ole, Ole’ as one example. And College Football has their fascinating fight songs. And the New Zealand rugby haka is amazing to experience. Great experiences all!

The Author, Top Row Center

But I take particular joy in this Baseball classic tradition of standing up with the joyous crowd during the 7th inning stretch! The words reflect upon a young lad’s desire to have an adult figure take them out to the ball game to experience all the wonderful sights and sounds. There are even some traditional hand motions to share. The unifying tune harkens back to turn of the century America when baseball was truly a family affair. As a piece of true, nostalgic America, it is unique and one of a kind.

To have one of those truly iconic American of experiences, there is nothing else remotely equal to attending a big league MLB game. And of all the traditions that occur during a game, there is nothing that compares to standing and joining the crowd in belting out the joyous time hallowed tune.

Cheers, NCA

As a bonus, another take on the traditional song, LL Cool J…

Looks like you and the missus, er “spousal unit”, had a blast. Do you ever attend the spring training games in Arizona?

I didn’t grow up with baseball in Germany, but I enjoyed the few occasions my husband took me to watch a MLB game of the Colorado Rockies in Denver. As you mentioned, it did feel like a family affair and everybody just seemed to be there for a good time. We definitely had one.

Glad you were able to celebrate the end of the regular season with a trip to the ballpark.

I’ve been to the Rockies Stadium too. It has a similar vibe to T-Mobile. As I retire, perhaps I will add more MLB stadiums to my bucket list. I’ve been to 4. When my blog partner Neville was in the States we attended a Spring Training game together. His first Baseball game. Maybe when he returns we may see another.

That would be terrific. I would not mind seeing a European Sports venue and taking in a ‘Soccer’ match someday too!

She bought me the tickets for my birthday, back in July. She’s not that into baseball, but she does like Seattle.

Indeed, baseball has been huge in my life since I was a wee lad. But I appreciate my wife being willing to attend and soak in the positive vibes. I love the traditions and quirks of the event! 🏟️

Hubs and I have been to only one MLB game – many years ago in FLA. I remember loving the 7th Inning Stretch more than I loved the game itself, lol.

Yeah, I agree. I don’t go often, but the atmosphere in Seattle for the last few games of summer was a true thrill. 🏟️

i still hope to attend a baseball match, even if it’s Spring Training. The Astros and Cardinals train literally 5 miles from my home. But I have attended cricket in the caribbean and at Lords in the UK. A wicked atmosphere. Love the singing and the banter.

You’ll have a great time . Try to attend a 20/20 match. About the length of a baseball game..a lot more fireworks though. 👏👏

Looks like such a fun time! I’ve only been to one live game in the US, which was at the Gillette stadium to see the Patriots (my partner’s favourite team since the 1980s) win against the Cowboys. An electrifying game!

An engaging report on such a quintessential American experience. I appreciated the selfie, the audio atmosphere and hey, a bit of LL Cool J to boot. While I remain quite bemused by the game itself (let’s not even get into the rules and stats side of things), I nevertheless greatly enjoyed my own few baseball game experiences. One was minor league in Iowa, the other a pre-season friendly of sorts in Washington to see the National take on the Phillies. The Dead Presidents race during the break was a hoot. And yet, my favourite experience was touring an empty Wrigley Field in Chicago. As a Ferris Bueller nut that was one I’ll always cherish. “Hey batter-batter-batter-batter, sahweeng, batter!”
